For the last couple of days, we’ve known that there was going to be some winter weather headed to the fort today. Work was exciting because we had some people in town from both India & Mexico and they thought the snow was pretty cool! It started around 10am, and would snow really heavy off & on, but the cars on the road outside our window seemed to be flowing normally. At about 3pm, we got an email saying that our office would be closing at 3:30 so that everyone could get home safely. About 3 minutes later, the kiddos’ preschool called to say that they wanted parents to come get kids asap.
I left and went to grab up my crew! But, first, had to stop & get some chips, salsa, & cheese dip at the mexican restaurant on the route between work & preschool! Necessities, right!?
Garrett was so excited when he saw me walk in! He screamed “MOM! It’s SNOWING!!”. As if I didn’t know! So sweet! He immediately wanted to have a snowball fight!
We ran down the street to our neighborhood grocery store for a few more snow day staples (just in case we are stuck at home tomorrow). Cheez-its, Dill Pickle Pringles, and bananas! YUM!
The roads were ok, and all the cars on the road were being patient with each other. And just as I turned on to our road, the BIG flakes started falling heavily! There were two cars off in the ditch on our road.
They played outside in it for about 3 minutes. Long enough for me to get the van unloaded, but then they came inside. See that black car just above Gina’s head? That’s one of the cars that was off in the ditch. My neighbor was in front of me as we were coming home, and he was stopping to verify that whoever was in the car was ok. But I guess they had already had someone pick them up, because there was no on in it. Still two cars in the ditch doesn’t compare to this snow day back in 2007!!
We came in and Garrett went straight for the iPad! I told him to play it and keep it plugged in, just in case we loose power.
Once we were settled and had had a snack, Gina was dying to go outside! I opened the door for her & Lily to go out…
Gina went, but Lily did NOT want to get off the porch!
Sweet girl wanted to have a snowball fight but sure didn’t want to wait for me to go get her bigger coat or gloves! She wasn’t even out there for 2 minutes. She would throw the snow and scream “SNOW BALL FIIIIIGHT! My hands are cold! Snow ball fight! Cold hands! Cold Hands!”. She loved it!
On the left is my parents yard about 40 miles SW of here. They got snow today too, but it didn’t stick. On the right is our yard. These were both taken at about 4pm today.
We played and colored and ate our dinner … and while I was hanging up some clothes in my closet, I came out to this. I should have known she was up to something since she was being quiet! I know she could be doing way worse things while she’s quiet!
They are saying we’ll get lots of rain overnight and into the morning and that it will all freeze. So we’ll see how things play out in the morning! Will the kids’ preschool be open? (they follow the local school system on closings) How will the roads be? I am just hoping & praying that we don’t loose power!

I love that your staples include Cheeze-Its and pickles! You are my kinda girl!
