Garrett Lately

Garrett has been such a character lately. A few weeks ago, I began jotting down things he said in the notepad app in my phone, and before I loose them, I wanted to be sure they made it to the blog. The pictures don’t have anything to do with the quotes, but what’s a post without pictures?

01/24: Me (in the van on the way home from work & preschool): What did you have for lunch today?

Garrett: Uh… Raviolis, beans… No wait. Maybe those were raisins! Yeah, it was raisins not beans! I’m so crazy! And lettuce and cheese and some ranch.

All I could think was that he sure doesn’t eat that (especially lettuce!) for me!

That same day, I had run through Sam’s with my parents, and we picked up a box of Pop Tarts. When he saw them, he immediately knew what they were (duh), and the he quickly told me that there were 36 in there! I was pretty impressed!

While he had a 100.5 fever back on 12/29 (yep, I totally jotted all of that down with this quote!), I had just given him some Tylenol, and he was feeling just yucky. He started dozing off to sleep on the sick-kid-pallet on the floor next to our bed, and he mumbled the following: “Bowzer throws food at Mario! What are you doing, you sausage? That stinky Plankton…”.

This past Sunday, the 4 of us were playing around outside since it was actually sunny and almost 60 degrees. Garrett started “pretending” that he was a traveler from California. Before we knew it, he had made up this whole character! His name was Kai (the red ninja from Ninjago), and he had a twin sister named Mia (also from Ninjago, but in our case, Gina would be playing this part). He had come to visit us from California, and was just staying with us overnight. He told me that besides his twin sister, he had 8 (EIGHT!!!) brothers. I asked him if his mommy was tired. He said that no, his daddy has a red motorcycle, and that his mommy rides on the back of it, and they go for lots of adventures!

He told me all about his badge that he got for hiking. I asked him how many badges he had been awarded, and he said 60! When I asked him what they were for he said “hiking, cooking eggs, being nice to my dog, riding a motorcycle and some other stuff that I forgot”. When I asked him why he got his badges, he said “for money and just because I’m good at those things”.

This whole character came and went (even through today!). When it was shower time on Sunday, he wanted to know where the towels and soap were, and reminded me that he doesn’t live here, he lives in California. Last night, he proceeded to tell me that his dad picks him up every day from school, and his dad got him his Spiderman lunchbox.

Last night, I also asked him how his school is in California. His resopnse? “I just started a new school today. It’s the 3rd grade school called the CFGS.” (Seriously? This story is very detailed, little buddy!!). He even told me that his teacher’s name is Jack (we’ve been watching a lot of Duck Dynasty recently, Jack!).

(at his school friend, Piper’s birthday party a few Sundays ago. we stumbled upon this fella when we took a potty break, so I asked him to pose with it so we could text a picture to Daddy. I begged him to act like he was giving it a sugar, but he wouldn’t get too close.)

When he is in “full” Kai (ninja) mode, he carries two swords, just like Kai… one in the back of his shirt, and one in his hand.

Tonight, while in the shower, he told Gina: “Pretend we are evil scientists! Mwahahaha! Let’s make a potion! Gina, you have to laugh like that, or you aren’t an evil scientist!”, but Gina just said “pretend I’m the baby… waaaaaa”, and his response? “GINA! Evil Scientists DON’T have babies!”. And then she quickly perfected her evil laugh… mwahahaha!

5 years old is definitely a fun age!

I think Winnie The Pooh was talking about Garrett when he said “As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen”.
